Vivint Home Automation & Security Review

Vivint is a relatively young company that specializes in home automation and security systems. They seem to take pride in their smart home systems (which they’ve named Vivint Sky) because this is what they have going for themselves. Im not sure if you would like to know this, but I thought to give you a little background about the company so you can know what they are about.

Vivint was founded in 1999 by an entrepreneur named Todd Pedersen. He apparently discovered a new way to market home security services that involved using a personal approach. This helped grow Vivint into a security company with over 800,000 customers.

Vivint Services and Features

Vivint basically offers three plans to its customers and here is a list of all the most important features and services you get in those plans:

  • The ability to control your security system from anywhere in the world
  • Automated door locks that you can control with your smart phone
  • Live video footage of what’s happening in your home
  • Alarm monitoring services

Vivint Home Automation & Security Pros

I like the fact that Vivint lets customers have remote access to their smart home security system because you can use this to your advantage regardless of where you are at any given time. The fact they also send their customers text message alerts whenever something of significance happens is useful. You can tell them to set your system up to alert you when a door unlocks in your home, or whenever a window opens…or, if a sensor triggers in your home.

Vivint Home Automation & Security Cons

I find Vivint to be a little expensive. They are not quite as expensive as ADT Pluse , but they are still a pricey option that is not as affordable as Frontpoint Security . Vivint also has a bit of bad reputation when it comes to customer service issues. I’ve heard a few people complain about this but who knows how far true it is.

Lastly, I have to advise you that Vivint requires you to have one of their professional installers come to your home. This is not necessarily a deal breaker for them because their system is pretty decent and they sometimes offer free instillation. However, I think it’s a major pain in the ass dealing with this issue because you may have to take a whole day off work just to have an installer come to your house. And once they get there, you will have to wait for them to install it.

Conclusion

Vivint is only worth looking into if you’re willing to spend a lot of money to get a smart home system installed in your house so I wouldn’t recommend them as a first choice. Frontpoint Security is a far better choice in my opinion.
